Insider Threats Meet Access Control: Insider Th...

Existing access control mechanisms are based on the concepts of identity enrollment and recognition and assume that recognized identity is synonymous with ethical actions. However, statistics over the years show that the most severe security breaches have been the results of trusted, authorized, and identified users who turned into malicious insiders. Therefore, demand exists for designing prevention mechanisms. A non-identity-based authentication measure that is based on the intent of the access request might serve that demand. In this book, we test the possibility of detecting intention of access using involuntary electroencephalogram (EEG) reactions to visual stimuli. This method takes advantage of the robustness of the Concealed Information Test to detect intentions. Next, we test the possibility of detecting motivation of access, as motivation level corresponds directly to the likelihood of intent execution level. Subsequently, we propose and design Intent-based Access Control (IBAC), a non-identity-based access control system that assesses the risk associated with the detected intentions and motivation levels. We then study the potential of IBAC in denying access to authorized individuals who have malicious plans to commit maleficent acts. Based on the access risk and the accepted threshold established by the asset owners, the system decides whether to grant or deny access requests. We assessed the intent detection component of the IBAC system using experiments on 30 participants and achieved accuracy of 100 percent using Nearest Neighbor and SVM classifiers. Further, we assessed the motivation detection component of the IBAC system. Results show different levels of motivation between hesitation-based vs. motivation-based intentions. Finally, the potential of IBAC in preventing insider threats by calculating the risk of access using intentions and motivation levels as per the experiments shows access risk that is different between unmotivated and 1. Ghana School Feeding for Rural Poverty Reduction: A Qualitative Exploratory Case Study is second edition to Ghana School Feeding for Rural Poverty Reduction. The revision in title is to emphasize the scholarly orientation of the book to the academic community without compromising on its social policy appeal. The book reflects findings from the qualitative exploratory case study research into activities of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) at a designated rural community public basic school situated within the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Content analysis of data from the GSFP secretariat supported with interview data, confirmed steady improvement in school outcomes of enrollment, attendance, retention, and literacy (English Language and Mathematics test scores), and challenged realization of socioeconomic benefits of nutrition, food production, and security. Lack of community awareness and support for activities of the GSFP that undermine achievement of the objective of increased local food production and government's delayed payment to caterers were challenges identified by participants that needed to be addressed to ensure program success.

Persistence of Adult Online Learners

Models have classified dropout attributes in traditional environments, but minimal research has focused on the relationship between persistence and attributes present in the undergraduate online adult learner population. Previous researchers who studied the relationship between satisfaction and persistence have neglected to address the importance or priority of the experiences a student encountered. This study focused specifically on the correlation between levels of importance and satisfaction, and the resulting impact on persistence. The participants in the study were undergraduate adult students enrolled in an online program at a private, non-profit, regionally accredited institution of higher education in the American Midwest. The findings of this study indicate that adult online students require access to the same type of faculty interactions that are made available to those students enrolled in on-campus programs, timely feedback and responses to requests, and clearly outlined costs associated with enrollment that enable students to fully appreciate the financial commitment required prior to and while enrolled.

Most Nigerian farmers are ageing. A critical challenge for sustainable agricultural and rural development in Nigeria has remained how to mobilize her large population of youths (about 45%) as active participants in the agricultural transformation process. Most Nigerian youths appears to be negatively disposed towards electing agriculture as a course of study or as a vocation. It is imperative to constantly assess students'attitudes because the link between attitude, subject enrollment, and achievement has been sustained by research. The book presents the nitty gritty of the processes involved in development, validation and standardization of semantic differential scales for measurement of students' attitude to agricultural science.Preliminary utilization of the scales indicates that the instrument validly predict students' achievement in and choice of agriculture as a course of study or vocation. The book should be especially useful to Guidance Counsellors, Science Educators, Measurement and Evaluation Trainees and Professionals, Curriculum Planners, Researchers and anyone else who may be interested in taking objective classification, selection and placement decisions about students.

Ghana School Feeding for Rural Poverty Reduction explores the effectiveness of school feeding as an antipoverty initiative aimed at addressing the dual challenge of low literacy and poverty. Peer-reviewed literature has confirmed the link between low literacy and poverty - persistent low literacy sustains poverty. The book reflects findings from the qualitative exploratory case study research into activities of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) at a designated rural community public basic school situated within the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Content analysis of data from the GSFP secretariat supported with interview data, confirmed steady improvement in outcomes of enrollment, attendance, retention, and literacy (English Language and Mathematics test scores), and challenged realization of socioeconomic benefits of nutrition, food production, and security. The Voices of At-Risk Students

The high mobility of at-risk students obfuscates the tracking and analyzing of data related to dropout rates for this mercurial student population. The purpose of this descriptive qualitative phenomenological study was to capture the voices of at-risk male students in order to evaluate what services promoted academic and social success in a community school. The researcher purposively selected ten male students out of the accessible population of 36 students enrolled at a community school in Northern California. The commonalities of the participants were their ages, 16 to 18 years old, enrollment at the community school and expelled or excluded from other high schools in California. The male students' knowledge, opinions, perceptions and feelings, channeled through in-depth, open-ended interviews, constructed the holistic picture of the students' lived experiences. The researcher developed 13 open-ended interview questions for the data collection process. Triangulated data from field notes, interviews, students' cumulative files and audio-visual productions were utilized to guarantee validity. The students clearly stated the need for value-based leadership based on mutual respect.
