VARSITY ATHLETICS AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT
49,00 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

Over the last thirty years, colleges and universities have been faced with an increasingly competitive marketplace for students, faculty and resources. One group significantly impacted by these trends is small private liberal arts colleges, which are tuition dependent and have been forced to respond to the changing market to maintain their position. Some of these colleges have developed plans to optimize tuition revenue, improve entering class profiles and increase retention, and many have created Enrollment Management divisions. This book profiles three NCAA Division III member colleges: Gettysburg College, Oberlin College and Saint John Fisher College, all of which have included varsity athletics as part of their integrated enrollment management strategy. The three colleges profiled are all small liberal arts colleges, but they vary dramatically. Weatherall concludes that a Division III college that is facing enrollment declines, or that is designing a plan to improve its selectivity and market position, should seriously explore the possibility of using intercollegiate athletics in its integrated enrollment management strategy.

College Readiness in Participants in Concurrent...

Concurrent enrollment programs are commonly believed to have the potential to increase college readiness. The extent to which these programs succeed at this task, however, has not been sufficiently examined. This study is unique for three reasons. First, it is among the few studies to examine whether concurrent enrollment programs are associated with college readiness even after controlling for the effects of pre-existing student characteristics. Second, it represents an uncommon attempt to determine whether there are differences in the outcomes of different types of concurrent enrollment programs. Third, it is a rare example of a study examining the relationship between concurrent enrollment and non-cognitive college readiness.

Factors Deterring Male Enrollment

Barbados, a small island in the Caribbean, is experiencing the challenge of low male enrollment in higher education (HE). The research indicated that this problem, left unaddressed, could undermine the development of men, their families, and communities. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to provide insight into the dispositional, institutional, and situational factors deterring young men who acquired the requisite number of certificates for entry to HE but did not enroll. The theoretical frameworks used to ground this study were Cross's chain of response theory, Bourdieu's social capital theory, and Knowles' theory of andragogy. The research questions addressed the contributing factors to the disinclination of men from enrolling in higher education, suggestions for increasing enrollment in higher education from the perspectives of young men and educational leaders, and benefits of nonenrollment in higher education in Barbados. A purposeful sample of 7 men from the 2014 academic year cohort of 3 secondary schools participated in semistructured interviews. Five educational leaders from secondary, HEs, and the Ministry of Education (MoE) participated in a focus group.

The Responsiveness of Enrollment Rates to Incom...

Since independence, many nations in Sub-Saharan Africa have undertaken huge steps in expanding formal education. In many countries, free primary education has substantially increased both male and female enrollment rates to 82% and 70% respectively (1998 estimates). In contrast, the respective figures for secondary education enrollment rates are 29% and 24%. This is also accompanied by a growing disillusionment among political spheres regarding the actual benefits of a formal education. In order to decipher the intricacies of education enrollment and aid policy makers, this paper examines the responsiveness of female and male school enrollment rates to income and price in a sample of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa using 1970 to 1995 data. A cross comparison between the Sub-Saharan Africa sample and the world indicates similar responses to enrollments with respect to changing incomes and prices.
